In this family the leaves and leaflets are often capable of movement due to changes in the water pressure of the swollen leaf and leaflet bases (pulvini). The leaves assume a folded or "sleeping" posture at the end of the day that is triggered by a decrease in light level. However, the sensitive plant is also capable of rapid movement in response to touch or application of heat. The Sensitive Plant is an easy to grow house plant that snaps it's leaves shut when touched! You will not believe this plant. It acts more like an animal than a plant. Plus it has beautiful, pink, silky flowers. Attractive, bright green leaves are outlined by burgundy borders. Grow on a bright window. Grows 6-12 inches tall.
